Eurobitume contributes to the annual asphalt conference in Switzerland

Eurobitume was invited to contribute to the Swiss Asphalt Association’s recent annual conference, which was a great opportunity for Eurobitume to continue enhancing its local focus and to exchange with approximately 150 stakeholders associated with the bitumen and asphalt industries in Switzerland.

The conference took place on Friday, 26th January 2024, in Kursaal, Bern, and was opened by asphaltsuisse president Bernhard Kunz. He first introduced Dipl. Ing. Kai Teschner, Managing Director ViaTec Basel AG, whose presentation, entitled “Green asphalt”, covered binding CO2 in the streets.

Eurobitume’s HSE Lead, Dr Anja Sörensen, provided an overview of Eurobitume, its evolved ‘one organisation’ structure, the challenges facing the bitumen industry in Europe and the work the association does on behalf of its members.

She also took the opportunity to thank industry stalwart Hans-Peter Beyeler, who for the past few years had represented Eurobitume in Switzerland, for his support, team spirit and the many valuable contributions he had made. With a new structure now in place within Eurobitume, Anja is now the focal person for Eurobitume in Switzerland and will continue to manage relationships with industry stakeholders in Switzerland.

Topics addressed in the other presentations included the transportation of asphalt mix, future-oriented digital documentation during pavement installation and noise monitoring SDA (semi-dense asphalt layers) coverings.

There was also an interesting and engaging non-technical presentation from ice hockey referee Andreas Koch, who spoke about how making the right decisions can help make you charismatic. After the conference, delegates networked over lunch.
