Eurobitume France visits APTH technical driving centre in Le Creusot
On 7 November, Eurobitume France together with our associate members Eb Trans and Magyar SA, held meetings at the Association Professionnelle pour le Transport des Hydrocarbures (APTH) technical driving centre in Le Creusot, France.
Established in 1995, APTH sets the industry standard for tank truck driver training and its goal is to minimise the risks associated with transporting dangerous goods. Approved by the French Ministry of Transport, it is also the first French driving centre to comply with the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR).
During the meetings, it was suggested to develop a Eurobitume guide on venting tank trucks from the ground. Creating this awareness would help discourage drivers from climbing on top of the trucks, thereby limiting falls, burns and exposure to bitumen fumes for a safer handling of bitumen. A first proposal will be presented to Eurobitume’s safe handling task force early next year.
Beyond the meetings, Eurobitume France and our associate members were taught how to safely drive tank trucks and they even got the chance to experience the tank rollover test, which involved driving around a wet roundabout at 25km/h.
