This autumn, Philippe Dewez has taken the helm at Eurobitume (the European Association of Bitumen Producers).
As the new permanent Director General, based in the association’s Brussels headquarters, he now heads operations at the association which he previously led as its elected President.
He takes over from Knut Søraas, who worked tirelessly for the association for five years and confirmed his retirement at the highly successful E&E Congress in May, in Copenhagen.
As the industry prepares for crucial changes in the European regulatory and operating environment, with the introduction of REACH, CEN and CE Marking, Philippe intends to continue to drive Eurobitume’s leadership on these technical issues, along with a wide range of occupational health, safety and environmental matters:
“I intend to continue in the footsteps of Knut Søraas who has done a tremendous job in transforming Eurobitume into a more outward looking organisation. We will continue to forge stronger links with other European associations and our counterparts across the globe. As we face common global issues of sustainability, increased technical cooperation is the only way for the bitumen industry to move forward securely.”
Philippe will enjoy the continued support of Mike Southern, Technical Director and Viviane Dupont. He will also be working closely with the recently elected Eurobitume President, Franck Haëttel and Vice President, Professor John Read.
An organic chemistry graduate, Philippe previously spent over twenty seven years with BP; the last decade dedicated to the bitumen sector.Throughout his career he has taken an active role in the industry associations and was also a past President of GPB the French association of bitumen producers.
