Eurobitume support for Your Roads Tomorrow event in Belgium

Eurobitume was a sponsor for industry partner organisation the Belgium Road Federation’s (RFB)’s recent Your Roads Tomorrow event, where current and future sustainability, mobility and budget constraint challenges in the Belgium roads sector were discussed.

More than 100 representatives from stakeholder organisations, including public authorities, contractors, material suppliers, car manufacturers and haulage companies, registered for the 3rd Your Roads Tomorrow, which took place at the Belgian Research Centre for Road Construction (OCW), on 16th February 2023 in Sterrebeek, near Brussels.

After a welcome from Annick De Swaef, Director-General of the Belgian Road Research Centre and Jo Vanmechelen, President of RFB, industry experts spoke about a variety of important topical issues, stressing the importance of a performing roads system which is well maintained in a sustainable way:

  • "The economic context and financial aspect of public investment in road works" Koen De Leus, Chief Economist at BNP-Paribas-Fortis
  • "How can the road pay for tomorrow's road system?" Johan Schoups, Administrator General of VIAPASS, the Belgium toll operator
  • "Electrification of our fleet: impact and challenges for highway facilities" Tuur De Coninck, Country Manager (Belgium) of electric vehicle charging company FASTNED
  • "Sustainability in (road) construction" Toon Jans, HQSE manager at Viabuild, member of BFAW (Belgian Federation of Road Works Contractors)

This was followed by an interesting panel discussion with the heads of the three Belgian regional road authorities:

Jo Vanmechelen, President of RFB, concluded what had been an interesting and valuable event, and thanked everyone for their attendance and participation. Special thanks were expressed to Marc van Brabant, who is retiring as RFB Secretary General in March and hands over to Rik Nuyttens.
