Successful Belgium Asphalt & Bitumen Day

After the Covid pandemic initially caused the postponement of the 2020 event and then its cancellation in 2021, it was a joy to see more than 150 delegates and exhibitors at the 2022 Belgium Asphalt & Bitumen Day.

Jointly organised by the Belgian Association of Asphalt Producers (BVA/ABPE) and Eurobitume, the 2022 Belgium Asphalt & Bitumen Day took place at the Business Centre BluePoint in Brussels on the 23rd March.

  • After introductions by BVA/ABPE President Jan Folens and Eurobitume’s Max von Devivere, industry experts spoke about a variety of important topical issues:
  • Efficient and environmentally friendly asphalt production is the future of our industry - Kris Mallefroy, Asphalt Manager at Stadsbader, and Paul Heleven, Director of Grizaco and Administrator at APL
  • Sustainability analysis of asphalt mixes - Luc De Bock, Technology Advisor for CRR • The current status of the "Asfalt impuls" programme in the Netherlands - Rob Willems, Technical Director and Technical Management at Rijkswaterstaat
  • Sustainable bitumen - Carl Robertus, Chair of Eurobitume Bitumen Sustainability Steering Group and Technical Director Bitumen at Nynas AB
  • Investment programme - Etienne Willame, General Manager of SPW, and Tom Roelants, Director General of AWV
  • The effect of road infrastructure maintenance on its carbon footprint - Brice Delaporte, Deputy Director of Technical Affairs for Routes de France
  • The wealth of collective memory for sustainable road construction in 2050 - Prof. Wim Van den bergh (pictured), Professor of asphalt technology at the University of Antwerp

As well as listening to these presentations, all of which are available in French and Dutch, delegates networked with fellow industry stakeholders and visited the stands of 13 exhibitors from associated product and service organisations.
