During the year we organised a variety of events to help promote the efficient, safe use of bitumen in road, industrial and building projects and create a positive environment for a sustained bitumen demand.

Eurobitume France Rencontres Bitume – Paris, March

More than 130 people from the bitumen industry, government, local and city authorities, professional associations, academia and other road industry stakeholder organisations attended Eurobitume France’s third Rencontres Bitume, at the FNTP (National Federation of Public Works) building in Paris.

Jean-Michel Michou from Eurobitume France opened the event with a brief presentation about the 50 years of service Eurobitume has given to the European bitumen industry between 1969 and 2019. He then focused on the handling and transport of bitumen, and spoke about Eurobitume’s updated new Safe Delivery of Bitumen Guide.

Heidi Kauffmann from Cerema, a member of IDRRIM’s ‘Winter damage’ Working Group, addressed the Masters of Works in the audience about how good working practices can prevent damage to roads in Winter.

Keynote speaker Dr Andreas Pfeiler, from the Austrian Economic Chambers for the Aggregates Sector, opened the afternoon seminar - ‘Reflections on Circular Economy, Sustainability and how Eurobitume is working for our members on technical standardisations’ - with his expert view on energy, circularity, circular economy and CO2 linked to the construction material industry. He also provided insights from Austria into the EU political arena and perspective.

The Netherlands Asphalt Day – Amersfoort, December

500 people involved with road building in the Netherlands, particularly the application of asphalt pavements, attended the 12th Asfaltdag (Asphalt Day) – jointly organised by VBW (Vakgroep Bitumineuze Werken van Bouwend Nederland, the Bituminous Works Department of Bouwend Nederland) and Eurobitume Benelux - to hear about and discuss the latest developments in mobility, road pavements and asphalt.
